Breakfasts around the world while backpacking- by backpackies

As you travel and backpack around the globe, you will soon learn that breakfast is not having it at a ‘FAST FOOD’ joint!
Rather it is more about being more adventurous and heading out to find and eat what the locals have for breakfast.
Here is a list of what some people in their country eat. 🙂

backpackies breakfast

Are you dreaming about the Mc Donalds breakfast in your sleep??

A full English Breakfast – it must have beans, sausages, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, hash browns and toast. Of course, it should all be knocked back with a cup of tea, but black pudding is optional as far as I’m concerned.

Breakfast in Iran – it usually features some sort of naan bread with butter and jam. When a light breakfast just isn’t going to hit the spot Iranians eat halim. Halim is a mixture of wheat, cinnamon, butter and sugar cooked with shredded meat in huge pots. You can eat it hot or cold. You can also see the Iranian version of an omelet here too.

A Cuban wake up meal – usually consists of sweetened coffee with milk with a pinch of salt thrown in. The unique Cuban bread is toasted and buttered and cut into lengths to dunk in the coffee.

Polish Breakfast – known locally as Jajecznica, a traditional Polish breakfast consists of scrambled eggs covered with slices of custom- made kielbasa and joined by two potato pancakes.

Quick Spanish breakfast – Pan a la Catalana, or Pan con Tomate, in Spain is simple but really delicious. Just rub some bread with fresh garlic and plenty of ripe tomato, then drizzle with olive oil and salt. Top with cheese, ham or sausage for an extra bit.

A yummy Moroccan breakfast – usually consists of different breads with some chutney, jam, cheese or butter. They have a really delicious crumpet-style bread which they make in huge slabs for you to tear a bit off, and a semolina pancake bread called Baghir – both are really tasty.

A healthy Hawaiian breakfast – I couldn’t imagine Hawaiians eating anything but fruit to be honest. Of course, there’s the bagel but I’m sure they’d burn the energy from that off in a few minutes on their surf board anyway.

Nope! Sweedish people do not eat Sweedish meatballs for breakfast!

Swedish breakfast – often involves a Swedish pancake, known as a Pannkakor. It’s a thin flat cake made from batter and fried on both sides – much like a crepe. It’s usually served with a sweet, fruity filling.

Icelandic breakfast cuisine – a hearty and hot breakfast to fight off the dark, icy mornings is what’s needed here. Hafragrautur, or oatmeal, is served with a sprinkle of brown sugar with a few raisins or nuts on top, perfect.

Breakfast in Portugal – a delicious and simple affair with stuffed croissants and plenty of coffee served in the sun.

Backpacking Langkawi Attractions – Temurun Waterfalls with backpackies

Backpacking Langkawi soon?
So what attractions are worth seeing on this beautiful but big ass island, you ask??
We don’t want you to be riding your moped the whole day and end up sunburned as red as a lobster chasing all those so called “Attractions” they label on the free Langkawi Tourist Map.
(Langkawi can be very hot or very wet – depending on which season you going)
Some of those attractions are just a waste of time.

On this blog, we will be visiting another waterfall.
The Air Terjun Temurun rivals the amazing Seven Falls (Telaga Tujuh). Unlike its monstrous cousin, Temurun Falls is further away from the main hotels and beaches and therefore quieter. So on low seasons, you practically have the entire waterfall to your selves.
Check it out
Just to show you that we were the only ones at this marvelous waterfall, we purposely parked our car at the NO PARKING sign. (Blame our NO GOOD driver for that).

Welcome to Air Terjun Temurun or in english The Temurun Waterfalls!!

It is a mere 2 minute hike to the waterfalls.

This clear pool is fantastic to swim in. People often have picnics here.

The waterfall is starts at a neck breaking height. Apparently there is a route up to hike up to the top point of the waterfall. The path looked like it hasn’t been used for ages. We were to chicken to try. During the rainy season, the water from the highest point will just vertically drop down to the middle tier.

The waterfall drops to the clear pool and then flows to 3 more retaining pools. These pools will also get filled up with people during the holiday seasons.

Verdict: Amazing waterfall. Impressive even on a non rainy day. It’s a clean waterfall that is a great place for a picnic and a natural getaway.
Unlike the Seven Falls, it is less crowded.

If you don’t want to take our word for it, and only want to know about the seven falls, then click here >> Telaga Tujuh / Seven Falls.

Backpacking Langkawi – Famous Chendol Pulut and Laksa Power by backpackies

Langkawi is only famous for a few things (Cheap booze, smokes, beaches and islands), but food is not one of them. So we had to really dig high and deep for the best food you can find in langkawi! Here is one of them we found hidden by the road side in the middle of nowhere.

chendol langkawi

This small stall is on the corner of the bend coming from the airport heading towards Pantai Cenang (Cenang Beach)

There is plenty of parking space around. Park anywhere you like.

“i want three bowls of chendol pulut for myself!!” – that’s how thirsty i was. The chendol pulut is best eaten with ice. If not it will be too warm and sweet.

This place serves 3 types of food. Chendol Pulut, Laksa and Cucuk Udang (prawn fritters)

Pick and choose your items. Served with special peanut chili sauce

They have fried mushrooms, eggs, prawn fritters, sausages and even burger patties!

sitting in the shade by the roadside with the sea on your left is just fantastic

The place is very windy as it is next to the sea. In the afternoons, you can have an airplane fly above you while you slowly sip on your chendol pulut.

The chendol pulut is a great thirst quencher especially on a hot day.

pulut is the white clump inside the bowl. It is glutinous rice.

santan (coconut milk)is added in to the bowl and topped with ice

They should have used shaved ice instead of just plain ice cubes. Would have tasted so much better. Guess ill put in the suggestion to them. The ice cubes just get in the way of wanting to take a big scoop and just swallowing it down.ur ty

The laksa here is your typical malay laksa. Nice to give it a try! Sorry we don’t have pictures of it. It was eaten before we could snap any.

This is one of the few street food worth mentioning in Langkawi. We also highly recommend this seafood stall in Kuah. Read our blog on it. Teo Seafood Restaurant
